My name is Camden Bradham. I’m a history major and now an education major at St. Norbert College. I’m originally from Nashville, Tennessee, but I have lived in Wisconsin for about 5 years. I’m deeply interested in history as my main focus, and it is one of my driving forces to become a teacher to share the passion for history that has shaped me. Along with history, I have varied interests, hobbies, and activities that helped define me as a person or, more accurately, a Nerd. I play D&D with friends worldwide; I Practice Archery(when time permits) and have an avid interest in hiking and the outdoors. But the real question is, how does this describe me as a person
In the Fourth grade, I had a social studies teacher who spent an entire year going over the build-up to the Revolutionary War, and on the fateful day, she skipped it and immediately went to the Civil War. This felt like an egregious oversight to my young mind. I was so annoyed that immediately after the class, I skipped my next period, went to the library, got a book, and spent the hour reading about the Revolutionary War. This act, which later got me in trouble, sparked a love of history(and reading kinda), and it only got bigger when my scope of reference shifted to a world view, mainly English history: what’s not to love about kings and thrones? The Hundred Years War was a subject, I delved over at great length, from the battle of Sluys to Castillion. The politics of Europe in the medieval era are fascinating and a big reason I want to be a teacher.
I never had a teacher who could answer my questions or even try to when it came to history; it was always frustrating, and I know I can’t promise to know everything, but I would like to help nurture the love of history. Besides, history is more than events and dates; it’s a beautiful tapestry drawn by thousands of years of human endeavor and mistakes, the splendor of empires rising and falling. A fantastic field of study, and I don’t think we show enough of it to people and, most importantly, students; I want to be a teacher to open up this discourse and to help students see the fantastic world that we have, I don’t want to be a teacher who skips important lessons or interesting topics i want to be a teacher who shows students why they should learn it
